Pat McGee Band sucks.

Okay, I had a discussion with a few friends who have seen this band, and we’ve come to the same conclusion: The Pat McGee Band is grossly overrated.

After seeing them live at the Z104 event in Arlington a few weeks ago, I realized this band sucked live because:

  1. They have about as much chemistry with their audience as Pee-Wee Herman with Carmen Electra.
  2. Most of their songs seem to be variations on the same (boring) theme.
  3. When a song actually has a nice groove that begins to engage the audience… they back off.

This meant that the band that came on before them, Low Millions, looked a hell of a lot better than them. In fact, we left in the middle of the Pat McGee Band’s set simply because they were simply not good.

That said, Low Millions had a hell of a lot more stage presence, and I voted with my dollars at the iTunes music store earlier today.

Oh man, I can’t agree with you more here. Overrated is the perfect word.

I saw PMB after much hype from local radio, friends, etc, and I just don’t get it. They literally use the same predictable songwriting formula over and over.

I saw them at the Birchmere (with the *great* Getaway Car opening). Most people in the place were so into PMB – standing up and dancing, cheering the beginning of every tune, etc. As each song began, Terri and I would just look at one another and say, “It’s the same song!”

The one thing I can say in favor of PMB is that, that evening, his band sounded great. Which just underscores that you can take any mediocre singer places with a solid backing band.

Oh, Todd and Chris from Getaway Car were playing and singing three-part harmony in Pat’s band that night…which is why they sounded so damn good. :)
