All Obama

I read this quote from Sen. Barack Obama’s book in an article on WashingtonPost.com:

“I’ve never had the option of restricting my loyalties on the basis of race, or measuring my worth on the basis of tribe,” Obama wrote in his latest book, “The Audacity of Hope,” in which he also observed that he has “blood relatives who resemble Margaret Thatcher and others who could pass for Bernie Mac.”

…and I immediately thought about my own family. We’re the opposite of the stereotypical, much-maligned West Virginia family that is the butt of everyone’s jokes because we’re even more multi-ethnic than Obama’s family and we’re appropriately named: Medley.

I’ll rant more about this later, but suffice it to say that if you come to my house to watch the Superbowl on February 4th, you probably won’t be able to guess who is related to me and who isn’t.

In fact, one time I had my friend Kym look at photos of people I know to try to see if she could figure who was a relative and who wasn’t, and she was reduced to guessing randomly. Or maybe she just didn’t care. Either way, I celebrate my diversity and claim a meaningless victory… and use it as an excuse to put put a picture of a pretty girl on my blog! So there!

EDIT:

Kym was on the brain because I do one of her websites and she had warned me she was going to be on TV today on the “Dr. Keith” show. So guess what I’ve got to do this weekend?
