Above the Clouds: Mauna Kaea Observatories

One of the coolest things I did while on my Hawaiian vacation was to take a tour that goes up to about 14,000 ft. ASL, which means you’re above most of the cloud cover. The tour ends with an opportunity to go stargazing through a portable telescope near the visitor’s center where you have an excellent view of the night sky — which isn’t easy to duplicate for me since I live in a major population center near sea level. :-)
