Tonight I saw “Gone Baby Gone” at the Majestic 20 in Silver Spring, and…
I give it a solid pair of thumbs up.

Don’t get me wrong — it’s uneven and somewhat choppy at the beginning, but just when you think it is going to take the neat easy way out and tie up all of the loose ends in a cliched manner, it draws you in with a clever plotline that evolves nicely to encompass all of the major characters.

I won’t write any more to avoid giving away any spoilers.
But strangely enough, having just finished “The Matador” on DVR, I found myself drawing a lot of parallels between two films that — on the surface — have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

That said, if I could come up with a dream double-header for “Gone Baby Gone”, I think I’d gorge myself on the thoughtfully intense drama first, and then cleanse my palate with “The Matador”, which would also serve to take the edge off of the darker, more serious film.
And I’ll say what some other reviewers have echoed: “Gone Baby Gone” is good enough that I almost forgot that Ben Affleck was in “Gigli”
*wretches*
