The Mothership Connection

Apparently, very few people read comic books and listen to classic funk music from the 70’s.

Here’s the link that I alluded to earlier between Captain America Annual #7 and Parliament-Funkadelic:

That’s right, Bernie Worrell and George Clinton are members of Parliament-Funkadelic, y’all!

If you are feeling culturally shamed by the fact that you don’t know who Bernie Worrell and George Clinton are.. and really, if you’ve listened to any song that has relied on a sampled hook from a funky 70’s groove, you’ve probably heard their stuff, then I’m going to provide a useful service in the form of three links to help you appreciate the P-Funk

First, you should see where contemporary artists still jam to the inherent goodness of P-Funk — case in point, this little ditty featuring Les Claypool, Buckethead, and Bernie Worrell:

Les Claypool as Sir Nose and Buckethead… Bernie Worrell is also in this.

Of course, you also might enjoy a taste of the silliness that makes them so much fun to listen to… I was a bit young to see them in person (but my sisters were old enough!), so I can only enjoy the recorded performances. Damn them for getting me all in to the Starchild vs. Sir Nose D’voidoffunk conflict back when album art was something more than a few JPEGs tossed alongside an MP3!

And finally, here’s a complete documentary on P-Funk on YouTube…
