Sarah’s Triathlon

Sarah Erskine sent me some photos from her triathlon. She’s alive, well, and very tired (duh!), but some of the photos caused me think weird thoughts, like…

Sarah beat Edward Cullen? Sarah beat Erectile Dysfunction? What does this mean?

The best story every told in six words…

No, not this… I mean “The Knight Rider“!

Actually, what I’m referring to is this tidbit from the Knight Rider Online Wiki:

Brandon Tartikoff, youthful head of programming at NBC, once gave California magazine this version of the creation of Knight Rider: It seems he and one of his assistants were discussing the problems of casting handsome leading men in the series, because many of them can’t act. Why not have a series, he mused, called “The Man of Six words,” which would begin with the guy getting out of a woman’s bed and saying “Thank You.” Then he would chase down some villians and say “Freeze!” Finally the grateful almost-vitims would thank him, and he would murmur, “You’re welcome.” End of show. In between, the car could do the talking. The series that made it to the air as Knight Rider was scarcley less preposterous than that, but it was played with such a twinkle in the eye that viewers–especillay kids–made it one of the hits of the 1982 season.

That said, I still think my car looks cooler than KITT. Even (especially!) the new one. Heck, it’s not even as hot as Bumblebee from “The Transformers” movie:-)

TR2N!

OMFG! Even with the poor quality of the video, I WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!

I have a long-time love affair with the original “Tron” movie.. it inspired me as a computer programmer when I just a kid, and to see that there is a sequel with Jeff Bridges is awesome. And it looks like he may even be the bad guy..?

P.S., If you want to know why the original Tron was so awesome, check out the infamous “light cycle” duel video…

Begun, the smear campaigns have…

(Just imagine the title being spoken aloud with Yoda’s voice… Hmmmmmm!)

From snopes.com, which is my preferred source for facts when I hear rumors on the internet that seem unbelievable… but the latest one, about Obama dissing soliders during a visit seemed like a classic smear campaign, until I read more and found that there was a lot going on beneath the surface…

Snopes.com: Obama in Afghanistan

As mentioned in the Snopes entry, the interesting twist is that the person who wrote the letter is a *real* member of the military whose e-mail to his family was made public. Then, the story began to circulate, stirring up all kinds of reactions from people.

Now, people are arguing the fine details of whether Obama was actually mingling with the troops at the base the original e-mailer wrote from or not, but it seems that Obama has had no problem mingling with our service people in other locations, as you can see below:

The only sad thing is that people are now picking at every nuanced move of a candidate to determine if they are “correct”, instead of looking for a leader. This is why I try to ignore all the crap about McCain’s age, Obama’s middle name (Hussein), and silly meaningless details that get stirred up.

I’m more interested in whether we’ll have a real energy policy so that the economy is not held captive by foreign oil interests who happen to be the breeding grounds for terrorists. I’m more interested in whether the housing bust is going to roll back the gains we’ve seen in the real estate market. I’m wondering if either candidate has a real plan for balancing the need to allow American companies to compete globally versus protecting American jobs.

But God forbid if one of the candidates forgets how to walk like a geisha while balancing image and substance!
